PVC Insulated Heavy Duty Cables
"Ruby Cables Limited." offer a wide range of L T PVC I XLPE insulated power Control cables with Copper as well as Aluminium conductors. The insulation of normal PVC I HRPVC I FRLS I XLPE can be offered. Special purpose FRLS compound for inner as well as outer sheath can be offered on request. Following are the standard constructional features of PVC/XLPE insulated Heavy Duty Cables as per IS: 1554 [part-I) I IS 7098 (Part-l)1 IS 694-1990
Conductor
The conductor is made of electrolytic grade high conductivity annealed copper or electrolytic grade aluminium. Generally, all power cables have aluminum as the conductor material while control cables have copper. However power cables with copper conductor can be offered on request.
Insulation
The insulation is suitably compounded PVC/XLPE to the conductors by the extrusion process. For normal application PVC insulation Type A (70T) and for HRPVC insulation Type C (85C) as per IS: 5831 (1984) is provided.
Core Identification
Different cores in a cable are identified by colours. Following colour scheme is followed:-
Single-core : Red, Yellow, Blue or Black or as specified.
- 2-core : Red and Black
- 3-core : Red, Yellow and Blue
- 4-core : Red, Yellow, Blue and Black
- 5-core : Red, Yellow, Blue, Blackand Light Grey.
- Whenever the number of cores exceeds 5, two adjacent cores [counting core and direction core) in each layer are coloured Blue and Yellow respectively, and the remaining cores are Light Grey.
In 3.5-core cables, the 3 main cores are Red, Yellow and Blue and reduced core is Black. Control cables with core identification with numbers also can be provided.
Laying-up
All multi-core cables are laid-up as per the colour scheme indicated above with thermoplastic fillers in the interstices
wherever applicable to make the cable circular.
Inner Sheath
The laid-up cores are surrounded by an inner sheath of any of the following types :
- Extruded PVC.
- Wrapping of plastic tapes.
Single-core cables usually do not have any inner sheath. However the same can be provided as an extra feature.
Armouring
Depending upon the application. these cables can be armoured or unarmoured single-core cables for use in a.c. system, the cable should be armoured with no cables are to be used in d.c. system, the cable can be armoured with steel wire / strip.
The armouring is applied over the core insulation in case of single-core cables multi-core cables. Where the calculated nominal diameter over the insulation, not more than 13mm, the armour consists of galvanized round steel wire. In round steel wire or steels trip. Steel wires and strips for armouring conform to IS:3975
The direction of lay of the armour is always opposite to that of the outer layer of cores.
Outer Sheath
The outer sheath is of suitable grade of PVC compound applied by extrusion is generally Black. Outer sheaths in a colour other than black can be supplied

In addition to the above, PVC/XLPE insulated cables as per international standards can also be manufactured.
